THE TRAILS OF HYDRA

The uniqueness of Hydra lies in the combination of its cosmopolitan atmosphere, rich tradition, and diverse natural environment, making it a paradise for hikers and nature lovers, as its mild climate favors trekking all year round.

As you traverse the eastern side of the island toward the Zourva lighthouse, you will mostly encounter a rocky landscape, while on the western side toward Bisti, the route passes through pine-covered paths. In the center of the island stands the highest mountain of Hydra, "Eros" (588 m). From its southern side, "Eros" drops steeply 600 m down to the sea, offering panoramic views of the Saronic Gulf and the Myrtoan Sea.

During every journey, you will be delighted by Hydra's ecosystem, which features a remarkable variety of flora and fauna.

Specifically, a multitude of wildflowers grow on the island, such as rare cyclamens and poppies. The scenery is completed by pine trees, cypresses, thyme, shrubs, and centuries-old olive trees. Thrushes, partridges, quails, turtledoves, and many species of birds live here permanently or use Hydra as a stop during their migration. Small mammals like wild rabbits, hares, cats, and of course Hydra's unique wild goats, form the mosaic of nature along with a significant number of amphibians and reptiles.
