TOUR OF HYDRA

Hydra is a unique town built amphitheatrically at the head of a closed bay, with imposing mansions composing an image that feels somewhat timeless yet historic.

The coastal road, Pavlou Kountourioti, stretches from the statue of Miaoulis to the Petalo area and serves as the main axis of the harbor, where shops, restaurants, and cafes are concentrated.

In the center of the harbor stands the Cathedral of Hydra (1648), while the mansions of Kountouriotis and Tombazis recall the rich maritime and commercial history of the island.

Behind the waterfront, the picturesque alleys of the old town (Kiafa) offer their own magic, with high stone walls, stone-built houses, and churches with impressive frescoes.

From Kiafa, paths lead to the monasteries of Prophet Elias and Saint Eupraxia, offering panoramic views of the Saronic Gulf, while at the top of the hill stand the seven windmills that were once used for the manufacture of gunpowder.

Hydra remains a place where the modern world meets tradition, offering the visitor a unique experience that combines history, nature, and the authentic Greek spirit.
