DAY TRIPS FROM HYDRA
A. The lack of roads and the prohibition of motor vehicles in Hydra makes sea transportation essential for exploring the island's beautiful beaches and shores. The Tour of Hydra is a popular day trip, departing daily by traditional boat at 11:00 AM from the harbor. There is plenty of time for swimming in the island's small coves and enjoying light meals on the beach before returning to the harbor in the afternoon.
B. You can rent a car starting from Metochi, located directly opposite Hydra, and visit the archaeological sites of the eastern Peloponnese, such as the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus, the Palace of King Agamemnon in Mycenae, the beautiful city of Nafplio with its two medieval castles, or Ancient Troezen—the birthplace of Theseus—and the ancient vaulted tombs of Magoula in Galatas. By taking a small ferry boat from Galatas to Poros, you can also admire the Temple of Poseidon, situated in one of the most stunning locations on the island.
C. Using the flying dolphins, you can depart in the morning and return in the evening, taking a day trip to Poros, Ermioni, Spetses, or Porto Heli.
- Poros is 30 minutes away from Hydra by flying dolphin.
- Ermioni is 25 minutes away from Hydra by flying dolphin.
- Spetses is 40 minutes away from Hydra by flying dolphin.
- Porto Heli is 50 minutes away from Hydra by flying dolphin.
During the summer months of July and August, you can travel from Metochi via an 8-seater V.I.P minibus (Tel. +30 6976594753) to the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus to attend a theatrical performance as part of the Epidaurus Summer Festival.
